Supporting Education and Community through the Bartlett Area Chamber of Commerce Scholarship Committee
By Michelle Sarwas, Owner of Bark Avenue Daycamp
As a proud board member of the Bartlett Area Chamber of Commerce, one of the most rewarding parts of my involvement is serving on the Scholarship Committee. This year, the Chamber is offering two $1,000 scholarships to students of any age who are pursuing continuing education. Whether they are recent high school graduates, college students, or adults returning to school to further their careers, these scholarships represent our commitment to growth, opportunity, and lifelong learning within our community.
I have been part of this effort for several years now, and each time the process reminds me why I love being involved. The Chamber’s mission isn’t just about supporting local businesses. It’s about investing in the people who make our community strong. I truly believe in the saying, “It takes a village,” and this is one of the many ways I try to give back to that village. By supporting education, we help individuals build brighter futures for themselves, which in turn strengthens the fabric of Bartlett as a whole.
This year, we received 12 applications from an inspiring group of candidates. Each story we read is unique, filled with determination, ambition, and hope. Reviewing these applications is both challenging and uplifting. It’s never easy to narrow down the list when every applicant has such a compelling reason for pursuing their dreams, but it’s a wonderful reminder of how many motivated individuals are right here in our own community.
As business owners and residents, we all have a role to play in helping one another succeed. Being involved with the Chamber has given me the opportunity to connect with incredible people who share that same passion for community engagement. Whether it’s collaborating with other local businesses, mentoring younger generations, or supporting charitable efforts, I find great fulfillment in being part of something larger than myself.
At Bark Avenue Daycamp, I see firsthand how a supportive community can make a difference. The relationships we build with our clients and their families extend beyond our business. They’re part of the same network of care, support, and trust that makes Bartlett such a special place to live and work.
We’ll be announcing the two scholarship recipients very soon, and I couldn’t be more excited for them. Their hard work and dedication deserve to be celebrated. I look forward to seeing where their journeys take them and how they will, in turn, give back to the community that has supported them.
Serving on the Scholarship Committee is one of the highlights of my year. It’s an opportunity to help others achieve their goals, to honor the value of education, and to continue strengthening the bonds that make our community thrive.
